Welcome to our new ORHS families, and welcome back to returning ones! My name is Marian Wildgruber, and I am your PTSO President. I’m replacing a veteran volunteer, Donna Reat, and I’m hoping to carry forward the full program that she led for the past five years. Our PTSO offers a variety of programs and services to high school families. We hold monthly meetings which are attended by our principal and a teacher representative who are happy to receive feedback and answer questions. We also have special guests, so it is always worth your time to come. The PTSO raises funds through it’s dues and donations and provides teachers with grants to help improve their classrooms and instruction materials. Together with the Guidance Center, we hold Brown Bag Seminars to provide parents with much needed information about testing, college prep, drug abuse and depression in teens, and much more. Exact topics and dates will be advertised throughout the year. We host an Open House, August 20, to let parents meet their child’s teachers and learn about school clubs and activities. PTSO holds four hospitality events to show our appreciation for teachers and staff during the school year. Volunteering with PTSO is a great way to get to know the high school and it’s staff. It’s also a way to understand what your child is experiencing at the high school and help guide them through a time that can be full of choices, hard work and big decisions about their future, not to mention a time of social growth and experimentation. Please join us for our first PTSO meeting, Monday, August 10, in the Guidance Center Conference Room from 5:30-6:30. We will get to meet Mr. McDonald, our new principal, and discuss the year ahead. I look forward to seeing you and getting to know what the PTSO can do for you.
